Inspired by material stratigraphy revealed through antique restoration X-radiography, the artist creates by placing glass atop light tables. When illumination penetrates gold leaf, it evokes a gaze traversing temporal dimensions—simultaneously embodying historical sedimentation and futuristic phantasmagoria.
"Dust Mirror" metaphorizes the mirror surface as the mortal realm: refracting fragmented realities while bearing the illusory splendor of memory and time. This manifests Chen Xiao Zhi's philosophical tactile grit of a tarnished surface and the paradox of worldly vanity.
Chen deliberately preserves the glass's patina of mottling and fissures, yet subversively reconstructs with gold leaf—a traditionally precious medium. Here:
